Objective:
This project created the “First Order Design Tool (FODT)”, which is custom software to speed up the evaluation of alternative designs aimed at meeting strength and weight goals for beam-stiffened plate structures used in naval shipbuilding. The FODT allows the comparison of a wide variety of test cases in minutes and can replace exhaustive volumes of properties of beam/plate structures that have been used but seldom updated. Finite Element (numerical) Modeling (FEM) was used to verify the accuracy of the results of the FODT.
