Objective:
The goal of this project is to deliver AI-assisted capture and packaging of critical knowledge, such as customer requirements, standards, and shipyard crowd-sourced knowledge to allow AR-assisted automated provisioning directly into ship repair workflows. This capability will automate the mapping of customer specifications and regulatory requirements into work control artifacts such as estimating packages, test and inspection plans, planning work instructions, and standard production work while providing visibility of compliance.
Summary:
Ship Repair work typically relies on an experienced work force and a few key people to drive deckplate actions throughout the Maintenance Availability. Work controls are typically informal and dependent upon communication in meetings. Knowledge is accessed informally by contacting “very busy” subject matter experts to provide insight or make decisions. This highly complex informal organizational system breeds extreme talent on one end of the spectrum and creates “burn-out” and fatigue for others.
In the long-term knowledge-aware vision of this project, the flow of knowledge from the Shipyard Knowledge Ecosystem will be seamless, capturing various categories of external and internal knowledge assets through AI. Active provisioning of knowledge is extended to all environments requiring that knowledge, including but not limited to the engineering office, the shipyard facility, and onboard the ship, by leveraging AR and AI.
Key Deliverables / Benefits:
- Streamlines the parsing and conversion of initial project requirements documents into active, individual elements for managing and documenting compliance through Knowledge Provisioning. (AI)
- Streamlines the provisioning of critical knowledge (work instructions, test and inspection plans, safety requirements, shipyard standard processes, quality and environmental requirements, drawings, repair information, etc.) directly to the employee within the shipyard facility or onboard the ship. (AR and AI)
- Provides a closed-loop environment for capture, structuring and delivery of lessons learned for future use. Near real-time process feedback can help reinforce better habits of accomplishing a task. (AI)
