Summary:
Determine if SiloxoGrip N-9020A Deck Gray MIL-PRF 24667 Type I nonskid can easily and effectively be cleaned and kept clean throughout the new construction process. Assess the nonskid capability to be cleaned through the service life of the coating. Work with vendor and other shipyards to develop tools and methods for cleaning.
The objectives of this project are:
- Identify shipbuilder contract requirements for nonskid cleanliness.
- Install and test polysiloxane nonskids for required cleanliness subjected to weathering and shipyard environments (ex. ferrous industrial debris, sand, etc.).
- Determine best practices for cleaning and care & protection methods of nonskids.
Key Deliverables / Benefits:
Developing and testing methods to physically or chemically clean non-skid on new construction ships will reduce the necessary rework in high traffic areas at late stages of construction. Applying nonskid materials is a labor intensive task and any methods to reduce this will reduce ship construction costs.
