Objective:

The goal of the project was to establish production-ready design concepts for low-cost composite false-deck panels that would meet the following standards: 1) minimize shipyard installation time/costs and provide ROI over current installation methods; 2) support compartment reconfiguration throughout life of the craft without permanent modification, resulting in ROI through life-cycle cost reduction; 3) meet all Navy prescribed structural and environmental performance requirements. The project team developed two alternative tile design solutions that accommodate future compartment modularity and flexible infrastructure requirements, while also providing the opportunity to streamline retro-fit installations through the facilitation of on-site trimming and drilling operations.
