NSRP ASE INVESTMENT: $124K
Objective:
This project extended the findings of previous efforts to create a business case to standardize connectors to the greatest extent possible for certain classes of connectors. The project focused on control, communications, and instrumentation systems, but low voltage and low current power applications may also be investigated. Through standardization, common designs and standardized equipment requirements, savings in installation costs, component purchasing costs, training costs, and testing costs can result.
The objectives included:
- Identify the degree of connector consolidation that is available for a given ship class
- Determine the available savings resulting from the recommended available consolidation opportunities
- Create a business case that identifies specific opportunities to receive benefit from connector standardization
- Present an implementation plan for a given ship class
