Objective:
The Certificate Program: Manufacturing Technician Training will provide shipbuilding industry entry-level production craft training and enhance workforce excellence of shipyard craft mechanics. The training will target new hires as well as the general public, and will include curriculum topics such as: shipbuilding basics, introduction to hand and power tools, basic blueprint reading, technical math and measurements, safety and lean training, as well as plasma cutting and tack welding. This project will rely on US shipyard best practices and production craft subject matter experts to develop a training certificate program criterion which aligns with shipyard industry standards.
The program will culminate in the attendee earning a certificate distinguishing the person as a knowledgeable and competent shipyard production craft mechanics. The certificate program will include classroom lecture, hands-on learning, demonstrations, as well as testing for knowledge and competency.
Goals and Objectives:
Design a Certificate Program to train entry level shipyard production craft mechanics

- Provide an opportunity for new hires to improve their knowledge and skills
- Improve the number of qualified applicants for skilled shipyard production craft positions
- Improve workplace safety, work quality, and entry level craft mechanic productivity
