Overview
Risk Reduction in Primary Scantling Design and Approval Process for Structurally Complex Vessels (2009-345)
Project Team:
- General Dynamics NASSCO
2008
NSRP ASE Investment: $100K
Objective:
This effort supported Navy interest in design tools by developing a process that facilitates the design and approval of complex vessel primary structures within a timeframe supportive of the ship construction schedule while managing the risk of primary structure change during the detail design and early steel fabrication phases. The final report presents general commentary on issues related to scantling plan approval through a process map and discussion based upon direct experience. By presenting examples of structural arrangements and configurations encountered in complex vessels, a template approach to identifying requirements for design and approval within the context of the rule set is proposed.
Key Deliverables:
Final Report – Approved for public release; distribution is unlimited
