Joint Interoperable Standards for Containerized Modules (2018-454-004)
NSRP ASE INVESTMENT: $134K
The goal of this project is to create a set of standards for intermodal shipping containers across all military services. Each military service, and even individual groups within the same service, independently developed containerized gear and workspaces optimized to various requirements. This haphazard approach to container design resulted in different sized containers, containers with equipment protruding from the sides, and varying sizes and locations of connections for power, water, temperature control, and ventilation. This study will enable interoperability between the Navy, Marine Corps, Army, Air Force, Coast Guard, and Military Sealift Command of containerized military modules for shipboard use, ease of transport by ship or air, and streamlined design of shipboard connections to containerized modules.
