Objective:
To decrease man-hours and eliminate errors by automating the data exchange from a Product Data Model or Computer-Assisted Design (CAD) model into a Production Planning System. The project will leverage work done on the previously funded “Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Integration with CAD” project.
Summary:
Production planning represents the most important link between a Product Information Model (PIM) or CAD model, and the realities of shipyard construction. Production planning can be represented in software through an Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system, or through a standalone software product.
This project focused on strengthening the capabilities of shipyard systems by defining and implementing a method for automating the transfer of data from a Product Information Model (PIM) or CAD model into a Production Planning system.
The final product – C2P (CAD to Production Planning) – was launched during the Final Workshop. The application does provides an interface that allows the user to create operation templates based on parts with similar processing needs and allows the user to assign those parts to those operations. Bollinger Shipyards has deployed a customized version of this tool.
