Objective:

This project sought to provide information on the roadmaps to further develop and deploy two recommended forming technologies, line array roll set (LARS) forming and automated thermal plate forming (ATPF) with the model-based engineering (MBE) tools, to the U.S. Shipbuilding industry. Both LARS and ATPF technologies were found to be highly productive and efficient methods that can be used to produce various types of ship hull plate geometries. It is expected that successful implementation of these technologies can yield a significant reduction of manufacturing costs related to labor hours and rework experienced in current manual thermal forming.
