Objective:
The project laid down a standard process using Additive Manufacturing (AM) tools and techniques that will significantly reduce part design, procurement, and lead times associated the fabrication of jigs, fixtures, and design prototypes. The objectives included:
- To address the elements specific to AM in a manner relatable to the shipbuilding industry
- Identify the best aspects of a robust, lean production workflow
- Demonstrate effective introduction of this new technology through implementation of an internal shipbuilding application
- Encourage its adoption so as to better position the American shipbuilding industry globally
