Objective:

This project performed a Commodity Variation/Standardization Analysis on vaneaxial fans built to specifications MIL‐F‐18953 and MIL‐PRF‐18953. This analysis was performed to identify differences in requirements–across contracts–related to the design and manufacturing of vaneaxial fans intended for Naval shipboard use.

The primary objectives were to: (1) reduce unnecessary equipment variation stemming from contract requirements and detailed design documentation; and (2) establish equivalent relationships between shipyard part numbers, vendor part numbers, and Navy National Stock Numbers (NSNs) for vaneaxial fans.  The group established a team of subject matter experts, developed a comprehensive list of active shipyard part numbers, reviewed NAVSEA Virtual Shelf recommendations, matched shipyard part numbers to NAVSEA recommended fans, created a requirement variation analysis matrix, identified requirement variation, and conducted a series of engineering evaluations.
