NSRP ASE Investment: $650k
Navy Investment: $927k
Objective:
Develop a set of common interface standards and design criteria for topside and below deck equipment/systems to provide cost, schedule, and performance benefits through use of flexibility, modularity, commonality, and scalability concepts. These concepts are expected to allow for concurrent ship and integrated combat system development and test, along with ease of technology refresh and upgrade throughout the ship’s life cycle.
Summary:
A diverse group of project team participants were identified from five NSRP member shipyards, the Navy (NAVSEA and Surface Warfare Centers), and three combat systems providers. Project co-leads were assigned from HII-Ingalls Shipbuilding and PEO Integrated Warfare Systems.
The approach was to take advantage of technical lessons learned and recommended best practices from ongoing design efforts such as the flexible ships concept and current shipbuilding programs. The information gleaned from these efforts was used to produce a roadmap to guide the development of a generic set of combat system common interface standards and design criteria to be applicable to all naval ships, in addition to other targeted specific requirements.
Key Deliverables:
Request Final Report for NSRP for this Phase 1 Effort–Limited Distribution Authorized to Department of Defense and DOD contractors.
