Objective:
The purpose of this project is to fully integrate the ship-centric 3D finite element analysis (FEA) MAESTRO structural design and optimization toolset with the advanced Siemens Femap/Nastran structural modeling and analysis tools.
Summary:
MAESTRO has specific capabilities within its core functionalities that are not present in general purpose finite element tools including Femap/Nastran. The integration of ship-specific capabilities will enable the ship design enterprise to use these functions that directly support naval architecture and ship structural design from the familiar and powerful user interface and high-performance finite element analysis tools in Femap/Nastran.
Key Deliverables / Benefits:
The project results will:
- modernize the MAESTRO tools via the modern Siemens software and will enhance Femap/Nastran with ship-focused structural modeling, analysis, and optimization capabilities;
- set a new standard of ship structural design and optimization tools that fully and automatically apply U.S. Navy structural design criteria to the engineering process;
- enable rapid ship design and trade space exploration by shipbuilders, design firms, and integrated Navy-industry design teams; and
- deliver modern commercial grade (TRL 9) robust
- ship-centric structural design and optimization software tools for in-house Navy and industry use.
