Objective:

This project’s overall goal is to identify several unique items, common throughout the industry, where personnel in receiving typically reach out to other departments, usually Engineering, to assist with the item identification during the receiving effort. The identified items shall be scanned and compared against the 3D model data to assess form/fit and deviation. The workflow will be documented, and processes created to train receiving personnel in the use and functionality of the Equipment Validation Through Scanning process.

Summary:

The project scope will include the following:

  • Identify use cases and review current business processes for receiving validation suitable for shipyards
  • Identify types of scan candidate items, availability, and accessibility
  • Develop data exchange protocols between the scanner and the 3D Design Model
  • Scan items to commence test and evaluate on the Equipment Validation Through Scanning process
  • Test and evaluate the process Proof of Concept

Key Deliverables / Benefits:

  • Development of a scanning at receiving workflow process suitable for the shipbuilding and repair industry
  • Data integration with 3D model and scanning process
  • Final Project Report including Recommendations / Implementation (for Public Release)
