Objective:
The objective of the project was to demonstrate equivalency between a purchased “cold temperature” steel grades HFRW tube vs. the corresponding baseline fabricated GMAW tube by comparing physical strength and fabrication costs. Specific goals for this project included the ability to demonstrate and compare impact strength of both tubes, demonstrate and compare fatigue strength of both tubes, and quantify and compare purchased HFRW tube cost to GMAW fabrication costs.
