Objective:
There is a critical need for a rapidly deployable high fidelity 3D mapping solution that can access ultra-confined and dangerous environments that no existing drone technology can likely access, with the exception of the Cleo Dronut. The Dronut platform itself offers a compact and portable form factor that is rapidly deployable, while lightweight and easily transportable.
Summary:
Cleo Robotics, in partnership with General Dynamics Bath Iron Works (BIW), proposes an enhanced 3D mapping capability that enables Naval personnel to capture a high-fidelity colorized point cloud in previously inaccessible ship areas.
- The proposed solution could collect data in a challenging environment in minutes, significantly reducing the manpower and time needed to 3D map entire ships.
- This enhancement to our existing 3D mapping solution will improve the accuracy and capability of existing technology, providing the ability to capture critical data and make informed and rapid decisions regarding areas previously deemed inaccessible.
- Currently, there is little to no knowledge of what inhabits inaccessible areas of vessels.
- Existing 3D mapping technologies used by BIW are difficult to move and set up and often cannot be used in confined or hard to access areas, such as utility spaces, tanks, overhead areas, and below false decking.
Key Deliverables / Benefits:
The goal of this effort is to enhance the existing 3D mapping capability to allow the Dronut to more effectively capture and map navy shipboard conditions.
- A denser, higher fidelity map will provide Naval personnel with improved knowledge for what is onboard vessels, significantly reduce time and personnel involved in the mapping process and provide a more accurate digital representation of difficult to access areas
- This enhancement of the existing 3D mapping capability on the Dronut platform will allow for comprehensive awareness of vessel contents, capacity, and condition in short-term and long-term condition monitoring
- The proposed solution could collect data in a challenging environment in minutes, significantly reducing the manpower and time needed to 3D map entire ships
- This enhancement to our existing 3D mapping solution will improve the accuracy and capability of existing technology, providing the ability to capture critical data and make informed and rapid decisions regarding areas previously deemed inaccessible.
