Objective:
This project sought to understand the opportunities presented by an alternative false deck design. The goal was to understand Navy requirements and determine whether a new system can replace legacy false deck systems. The project met all of the main objectives and a requirements analysis provided insight into the design goals needed to develop the alternative design. The alternative design using commercial parts was developed and shown to meet the majority of the design parameters. A suitable representative example of the traditional false floor design was chosen and reasonable cost data was obtained on it for use in the cost comparison. The comparison showed that the alternative design can be executed for a lower cost than the traditional design.
