Objective:

This effort documents current ergonomic practices and applications at the eight participating shipyards and provides an analysis and recommendation on what is appropriate in order to achieve reduction of ergonomic-related injuries. This is done primarily through color photographs, drawings and short examples. The final report is organized by the following categories: Training and Awareness; Warehousing and Distribution; Job Site Material Handling; Lines, Leads, Hose and Tubes; Workbenches/Shops; Panels/Decks; Under the Hull; Working in the Overhead; Working in Tanks; and Other Activities. This project also positions shipyards with a Best Practices recommendation and response to Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) proposed Ergonomic Guideline for Shipyards.
