Objective:
The overall goal of this virtual-reality based training is to provide the Navy and U.S. shipbuilding industry that is reliable, efficient, cost-effective and adaptable and agile across all platforms. This will be completed through the delivery of a compact, convenient and interactive experience through a safe, risk-free, immersive shipyard environment. Benefits include reduced training time, significant reduction in rework, and enhanced applicability for continuous training.
Summary:
The project team will develop and implement virtual reality (VR) training to be used across the shipbuilding industry. Included will be common shipbuilding terms, identification of standard tools and certain aspects of new hire training, all of which will be completed in a virtual environment with immediate feedback provided to the participant. The training will be developed by capturing subject matter expert knowledge and integrating in into comprehensive hands-on BR training modules. This project will include the training and associated materials, technical support and documentation, software/hardware testing and integration, as well as system consultation at shipyards.
The training system will be design to utilize low-cost components in commercial, open-source software applications that will execute with most operating systems.
