NSRP ASE Investment:Ā $363K
Industry Investment: $426K
Objective:
The objective of this project is to continue progress toward widespread implementation of Reduced Total Ownership Cost (R-TOC) opportunities that can be applied to ship design and to construction planning, as well as modernization efforts.
Summary:
This project responds directly to the multiple requests made by the Navy and Industry to provide further DFM and TOC results that extend beyond the original scope of the previous DFM Project. This project will build upon the processes and tools that have been developed through the previous NSRP Design for Production (DFP) and DFM Projects, and will deliver an updated repository of vetted DFM solutions, shipyard lessons learned, and design rules. This project provides direct linkage of over 1000 TOC Cost Reduction Records to the responsible Navy Stakeholder (Technical Warrant Holders, Ship Design Managers, Virtual Shelf Standardization Coordinators, etc.) to increase implementation of the DFM Body of Knowledge.
This project is designed to parlay the significant results accomplished under the previous NSRP Design for Maintenance Project. This project intends to provide ship designers, program managers, production engineers, and ship planning professionals the following capabilities:
- Access and update an extensive repository of over 1000 rules and standards that will be expanded to include Virginia Class Submarine DFM opportunities
- Leverage repeatable rules and standards on new designs, current designs, and planning products
- Track and measure the integration of Maintenance and Repair Standards in the design phase and in modernization planning
- Access to an extensive repository of TOC business case analyses performed for the recommended DFM solutions
