Overview

Qualification of Alternative Structures (2005-333-R25)

Project Team:

  • General Dynamics NASSCO

2016

NSRP ASE Investment: $110K

Objective:

The goal of all U.S. shipyards as they strive to meet world-class standards is to reduce the overall cost of ship design, construction, and life cycle maintenance for all customers.  One way to achieve this goal is to continuously research and employee the cost-cutting concepts and practices used in modern ship design and construction across the world.  It has been demonstrated that swaged bulkheads weigh less, take up less space, and cost less to fabricate than traditionally stiffened bulkheads.  This project is a major step towards bringing the benefits provided by swage technology into U.S. Navy combatant shipbuilding.

Key Deliverables:

Final Report– Limited Distribution Authorized to Project Participants and NSRP Representatives.

NSRP is co-funded by the U.S. Shipbuilding Industry and U.S. Navy
