Overview
Monatomic Hydrogen Control in High Strength Steel (2015-444)
Project Team:
- General Dynamics Electric Boat
- Newport News Shipbuilding
- Bradken Tacoma
- Metaltek
- Scot Forge
- University of Maryland
2015
NSRP ASE Investment: $150K
Objective:
This project provided a proof of concept for the method of hydrogen removal. Theoretical calculations of time reductions have been used to set long term costs reduction goals at $1.4M per VIGRINIA class submarine hull and $4.3M per OHIO Replacement hull, with savings potentials across all industries which utilize high yield strength steel castings and fabrications.
Key Deliverables:
Final Report– Limited Distribution authorized to NSRP Member Shipyards
