Overview

Lifecycle Integrated Data Environment (2015-445)

Project Team:

  • Newport News Shipbuilding
  • Siemens Product Lifecycle Management

March 2015 - February 2017

NSRP ASE Investment: $1.0M

Industry Investment: $1.0M

Objective:

Create a shipbuilding data environment in order to improve customer access to OEM technical data needed to support Service Lifecycle Management (SLM) and further enable the Navy in its efforts to move from a drawing centric to a data centric environment.

Summary:

The project was intended to fundamentally change the way shipbuilders manage a Navy ship availability for either maintenance or modernization. Project scope was to consider geometric data, metadata, and the collaborative technology required to digitally schedule, plan, execute and certify work and logistics data for the lifecycle of Navy ships. The project team consisted of HII – Newport News Shipbuilding, HII- AMSEC, and SIEMENS Product Lifecycle Management Software (PLM) personnel.

Overall, the NSRP Life Cycle Integrated Data Environment Pilot successfully established a common shipbuilding industry framework and COTs software solution for the adoption of a ship class or fleet maintenance and modernization data management capability.

The Collaboration goals and objectives for the LCIDE Project were accomplished successfully and benefits of this project include:

  • Reduced time for stakeholders to access and exchange data
  • Provide 3D product model views
  • Support the concept of drawing elimination
  • Provide OEM data from user desktop to any device
