Complete the remaining seven application areas of the Ship Common Information Model (SCIM) to deliver a user friendly specification that can be referenced as a part of the Navy Product Data Initiative (NPDI) and demonstrate the capabilities of the NPDI SCIM as the means for supporting the next generation IPDE.
The goal of this project was to evaluate the Ship Common Information Model (SCIM) and complete the development of remaining chapters of the SCIM. Over the past several years the ISE project has been developing and prototyping tools to enable an Integrated Shipbuilding Environment (ISE). Recently the Navy Product Data Initiative (NPDI) has written a specification for the next generation Navy shipbuilding IPDE system. These two products are the culmination of several years of work investigating the challenge of sharing information across IPDE systems. During its first phase, the ILE project will use the tools and methods developed by the ISE team and apply them to two current shipbuilding requirements: VIRGINIA Class IPDE data migration and the sharing of structural manufacturing work across shipyards.
Moreover, this project will use the NPDI Ship Common Information Model (SCIM) as the basis for these two pilots. As a result, this project will not only benefit two current Navy programs but will also demonstrate the capabilities of the NPDI SCIM as the means for supporting interoperability of the next generation IPDE. The second phase of the ILE project will complete the remaining chapters of the SCIM document and update the existing chapters to incorporate lessons learned during the validation efforts undertaken in phase one.
