Feasibility Study for Dual-Use and Multiple Ship Type Facilities

Overview

Feasibility Study for Dual-Use and Multiple Ship Type Facilities (2000)

Project Team:

  • LPH Consulting

2000

NSRP ASE Investment: $49K

Objective:

This study investigated the feasibility of successfully implementing the concept of dual-use or multiple ship-type shipyards in the United States. The study was terminated after the first phase because it was felt that each yard would consider the transition to dual-use or multiple ship-type operation as a unique shipyard decision. Therefore, each yard would do what it considered necessary, including sending its own team to world-class yards to benchmark and help develop its strategy. The study report provides an excellent background for considering dual-use or multiple ship type construction, including a listing of references to be reviewed and a database of ships-on-order.
