Overview
Assisted Decision Support System for Outfitting Work Content Palletization (2015-403)
Project Team:
- General Dynamics NASSCO
- Transystems
October 2014 - September 2016
NSRP ASE Investment: $244K
Industry Investment: $187K
Objective:
The project aimed to investigate assistance/automation opportunities in relation to the palletization process, develop a solution, and implement the system with the goal of automatically palletizing and/or assisting in the palletization process of half (50%) of the outfit parts, while preserving or improving the quality of the output product.
Summary:
The system consists of (1) a neutral format CAD interface for part attribute input from the product model, (2) a decision engine consisting of the palletization logic, cost/duration measurement metrics, and user interface, and (3) a neutral format part collection tool interface for palletized part output, allowing a shipbuilderās native part collection tool to ready the information for downstream use.
The final version of the Auto Pallet software for the project has been delivered to NASSCO. NASSCO is planning to continue testing and enhancement of the software after the NSRP project in anticipation of implementing it in production by the 4th quarter of 2017. The system will be commercialized following successful development with a qualified commercial resource for replicating these types of automated systems in other shipyards.
Key Deliverables:
