Webinar Description:
NSRP is supporting the research project – Robotic Arc Directed Energy Deposition (DED) Additive Manufacturing (AM) for Shipbuilding. The project team consists of Austal USA, ABS, Design & Software International, EWI, Naval Surface Warfare Center Carderock Division, and Navus Automation. A range of robotic welding systems have been converted into DED test-bed systems using Autodesk PowerMillTM CAM software. The software is used in a range of different engineering industries to determine optimal tool paths to reduce time and manufacturing costs for CNC machining, CNC additive manufacturing and robotic DED additive manufacturing. The latter is an emerging technology that needs matured for shipbuilding transition and implementation. To address the many technical challenges; the project is developing digital data workflow training materials, establishing workforce competencies, breaking down process qualification barriers, demonstrating representative procedure qualifications, and establishing large-scale standardized equipment for robotic arc DED AM implementation. As part of this project, the project team is hosting a 2 day webinar to support transition of year 1 project results as follows:
- On June 24th – Digital Data Workflow Webinar will discuss PowerMill TM software capabilities for large-scale DED AM, robotic post-processor setups, training & implementation requirements, and commercial success stories.
- On June 25th – Basic Capabilities Webinar will discuss Navy/ABS qualification, part verification, and performance requirements for fabricating metal components using DED AM; and development results that include multiple robotic DED test-bed setups, gas metal arc DED procedures, DED procedure qualification demonstrations, large-scale robotic DED gantry system integration, and implementation opportunities analysis.
