Objective:
Promote the reuse of material and design data and enable an increased scope of participation that will facilitate future interoperability efforts with other shipbuilders’ catalog systems to share standard part data and the geometry between shipyards, their customers and suppliers.
Summary:
The Common Parts Catalog (CPC) is a real-time, searchable inter-shipyard parts catalog in production at Electric Boat (EB), Bath Iron Works (BIW) and Huntington Ingalls Industries – Ingalls Shipbuilding (HII-Ingalls), and has facilitated a reduction in the number of parts on warship designs through the ability to support formal part standardization programs for new designs within and across participating shipyards. The Common Parts Catalog (CPC) employs standard data definition protocols and utilizes a robust search engine to create and share part information within and between multiple shipyards in order to streamline design, production, and life cycle maintenance. However, the CPC is presently limited to part attribute and document data and does not capture, exchange or link 2D/3D geometry to the part data. This project’s intent is to analyze, identify and map the implementation of marked enhancements to the existing CPC capability in the areas of:
- Network, Software and Application Changes
- Add capability to control read/write access at the part attribute level;
- Add a new (Google type) search engine;
- Replace document schema and process which are based on legacy systems requirements;
- Upgrade to provide a single web-based interface for all users;
- Develop a smooth process to keep CPC software updated with the latest releases and patches.
- Model Inclusion and Exchange
- Enable visualization of the 2D/3D model of the corresponding procured part;
- Include or link standard models with CPC parts to support model exchange, model visualization, model spatial integration, and full 3D geometry.
- Functionality Enhancements — Evaluate, prioritize and implement selected enhancements from a list of recommendations from a variety of sources including the Navy’s CPC pilot and CPC experience in support of CGN(X) and CG(X)
- Increase participation by other shipyards (Huntington Ingalls Industries – Newport News Shipbuilding [HII-NNS], GD NASSCO, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard).t1. Network, Software and Application Changes
