Standards Coordination
Welcome to the Standards Coordination area of the NSRP website. From this location, you can access the latest information about the following NSRP initiatives:
- Common Parts Catalog – Perform full-scale testing and refinement of shipyards' previous work on a Common Parts Catalog to provide solutions to the issues of inefficient part searches, lack of established part data standards inability to support part standardization of the IPDE programs, non-standard and duplicate parts proliferation and absence of inter-shipyard part commonality
- SPARS – Shipyards are teaming with IBM to implement online procurement procedures, also known as e-commerce or B2B, which will ultimately save time and money in the construction of the VIRGINIA class submarines.
- Integrated Shipbuilding Environment – Shipyards are integrating their IT systems to enable interoperability, design/build integration, and business interaction with other shipyards, equipment developers, and vendors.
- Material Standards - A NASSCO-led research project is developing and implementing a rule-based methodology for ship design and material selection. The project targets a five-fold increase in the throughput of preliminary designs and cost estimates that a shipyard can produce in response to market inquiries.
- Skills Standards - The Crosscut Initiatives Panel led efforts to help standardize terminology, scenarios, tasks, and details of knowledge, skills and abilities required by competent people to accomplish shipbuilding and repair work. Skills standards are used as a bridge between the worlds of production work and the worlds of education and learning. Common core manufacturing skill standards have been developed by the Manufacturing Skill Standards Council. Unique shipbuilding and repair skill standards have been developed and validated by shipyards. Skill standards are adaptable to a specific shipyard and their in-company or community education system.
