Lean Information
Lean and the Environment
EPA is engaged in research, education, and tool development to improve integration of lean and environmental methods and to leverage greater environmental benefits from lean initiatives. Shipyards can enhance business and environmental results by explicitly connecting Lean initiatives with an environmental management system (EMS) or other environmental initiatives. If you would like to join the group of SCA members involved in this effort, contact Shana Harbour.
EPA has created a guide with practical techniques and strategies that can help lean, environmental, and other specialists at your shopfloor to deliver environmentally protective lean decisions as a routine task of your lean driven business operations. This toolkit is located at http://www.epa.gov/lean/toolkit/.
Additional information on the business case for including the environment in your lean production model can be found here.

DoD CPI is a strategic approach for developing a culture of continuous improvement in the areas of reliability, process cycle times, costs in terms of less total resource consumption, quality, and productivity. In DoD, CPI comprises the application of a broad range of tools and methods, such as Lean, Six Sigma, and Theory of Constraints (TOC).
